Places to Stay

REMEMBER! REUNION WEEKEND is probably the biggest weekend for hotels in McPherson. Call in your reservations early as possible.

McPherson –Until the last few McPherson High School Reunions the Holiday Manor and Red Coach Inn were the primary places to stay. Best Western Holiday Manor (620-241-5343) is still the biggest (I think) in McPherson.  [Call here for a $20/night discount for our class.  Lane.]

Red Coach is no more, thankfully, having been sold and refurbished and renamed the Econo Lodge FunDome (620-241-6960).

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites (877-786-9480 or 620-241-5566) is the newest offering, typical of all Holiday Express hotels I would imagine. Linda and I stay at Holiday Inn Express motels sometimes when we are on the road. OK and predictable.

Also available are America’s Best Value Inn, and probably cheapest (620-241-8881), and

Days Inn, a reasonably priced chain (620-241-3690). All are located at Kansas Ave. and Interstate I-135.

If you plan to stay a month or two you will find the Wheat State Motel, on the old 81 Bypass, is still there beckoning thrifty lodgers. One review on Yahoo.com Travel said, “Nice place to stay if you don’t mind the 60’s environment.” Don’t look for internet access, however. Frankly, it’s always been pretty weird to me.

Lindsborg – If you can’t stay in McPherson Lindsborg is a charming little place best known for its history and culture. Lindsborg is loved locally because of its art museums, art and craft shops, Swedish Village and Old Mill Park. It has several structures that are on the National Register of Historic places, with another one, Hjerpe Grocery, just nominated for inclusion on the list on May 8. You can stay downtown at the Swedish Country Inn (785-227-2985). The Viking Motel (785-227-3336) is on 81 Hwy. at the north end of town. There are also several quaint bed and breakfasts in Lindsborg. It’s that kind of folksy Swedish town.

Hutchinson – There are lots of choices to stay in Hutchinson. Hutch, also has plenty of restaurants and visitor places. After all, didn’t we used to go to Hutch when we were in High School? I did, but I didn’t ever stay at the local inn or eat dinner! Some of the motels in town: Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn, Days Inn and more. You can find em.
